Different Morals

A deep tech-house track with a gentle groovy bass-line and droning synths featuring Diminishing Returns’ Ali Love on vocals. Tech-house at its best.

That Ginger Ponytail, on the other hand, is a tribal organic house track with beautiful unintrusive drops, quirky sounds, chirps and what not. The Dubfire version replaces the organic feel with depth and analog mood swings.

New Life #2

Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening

Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village, though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.
My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound’s the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.
The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

New Life

I have gone marking the atlas of your body
with crosses of fire.
My mouth went across: a spider, trying to hide.
In you, behind you, timid, driven by thirst.

Stories to tell you on the shore of evening,
sad and gentle doll, so that you should not be sad.
A swan, a tree, something far away and happy.
The season of grapes, the ripe and fruitful season.

I who lived in a harbor from which I loved you.
The solitude crossed with dream and with silence.
Penned up between the sea and sadness.
Soundless, delirious, between two motionless gondoliers.

Between the lips and the voice something goes dying.
Something with the wings of a bird, something of anguish and oblivion.
The way nets cannot hold water.
My toy doll, only a few drops are left trembling.
Even so, something sings in these fugitive words.
Something sings, something climbs to my ravenous mouth.
Oh to be able to celebrate you with all the words of joy.

Sing, burn, flee, like a belfry at the hands of a madman.
My sad tenderness, what comes over you all at once?
When I have reached the most awesome and the coldest summit
my heart closes like a nocturnal flower.

Blink and you’ll miss a revolution

Sleazy beats from down under, a laid-back interpretation of Cut Copy and the very best remix of Still Sound. Enjoy.

American vocalist Marlena Shaw has performed Woman Of The Ghetto at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1973. It has a very soulful and honest feel to it.

I love you but I’ve chosen Disco.

Richard X’s remix of Saint Etienne’s Only Love Can Break Your Heart (which itself is a 1990 cover of Neil Young) is melodic ride that resembles the experience of being love-struck. It is beautiful, naive and kind of expected. The euphoria fogs up your judgements and cleanses your senses of all objectivity that, the naive cheesiness of the track actually enhances the overall experience. I heard this heavenly remix very recently as a set opener and I was completely hooked from the very first second. I personally believe the instrumental version gives one the chance of appreciating the melodic subtleties and is also much better suited for dj sets.

I must go. My people need me.

Today’s organic track can be considered an oldie in the fast paced electronic music microcosm. It’s from legendary groove-maker Theo Parrish’s Sound Sculptures Volume 1 LP which turned out to be an instant classic. Soul Control, with its dark & hypnotic Detroit-house groove, is one of the most passionate pieces of electronic music I’ve ever heard.

Midnight in a Perfect World

asd

I’ve been experimenting with glitch, electronica and sample-based instrumental hip-hop for sometime now. Here’s a brief roundup of all the tracks I’ve come to adore.

DJ Shadow is on a league on its own and is the only reason I have any respect for hip-hop.

South Californian edIT’s featured tracks are from his close-to-perfect debut album Crying Over Pros for No Reason released back in ’04.

Also keep in mind that Gerhard Behles of Monolake went on to found Ableton, so no wonder Ping is an intricate audial delight.

In Retrospect

Today’s track is an emotional deep house groove by Berlin’s Chopstick & Johnjon. Over 9 minutes long, the piece gradually builds up to what I like to call heartbreak house. The impeccable execution demonstrates what can be achieved with a simple heartsore chord progression layered on top of a sampled loop (from Ashanti’s Foolish echoing “I’m hurtin while I’m with you”).

A perfect choice to accompany the end of summer.
Obviously, we adore.
