Recorded live in Pershing Lounge in Chicago, Ahmad Jamal’s Poinciana is one of the most famous jazz grooves of all time. Vernel Fournier and Israel Crosby follow Jamal’s dynamic and expressive range of chords with hypnotic and breathing rhythms, giving birth to a vast range of emotional flavors.

Filled with drony synths, a rolling groove and regret, Wish you were here is an epic 8 minute contrast of tender sorrow and ecstasy-fueled content. I feel like UK Garage descendent sub-genres have something very honest buried deep within them. Shuffling’ hi-hats and beat-skipping kick drums add so much diversity to electronic music’s emotional palette. The more one delves into it, the more there is to discover.

I’ve been experimenting with glitch, electronica and sample-based instrumental hip-hop for sometime now. Here’s a brief roundup of all the tracks I’ve come to adore.
DJ Shadow is on a league on its own and is the only reason I have any respect for hip-hop.
South Californian edIT’s featured tracks are from his close-to-perfect debut album Crying Over Pros for No Reason released back in ’04.
Also keep in mind that Gerhard Behles of Monolake went on to found Ableton, so no wonder Ping is an intricate audial delight.

It’s nice to get out of your comfort zone and delve into new musical territories every once in a while. Lately I’ve been been experimenting with everything from abstract hip-hop to smooth jazz. You Wish is a heavily sampled chill out track by Britain’s Nightmares on Wax. Go Je Je on the other hand is an all-over-the-place rhythm driven funky afrobeat by the Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra.
